Right within the heart of the metropolis lies a big slice of ancient history. Mahakali Caves- a collection of 19 rock-cut basaltic monuments were carved between the 1st and the 6th century BC. They were believed to be ancient Buddhist dwellings.
Another 10-minute drive from here leads to the Jogeshwari Caves built in the 6th century BC. Dating back to the Chalukya dynasty, these temples are believed to hold the imprints of many deities. Historians deem it to be one of the earliest cave-temple complexes in all of India.
