Mumbai is a city that lives and breathes all forms of cinema, from theatre acts to big screen Bollywood films. Drama and theatrics seem to run in the city’s very vein. Not only has the city been the birthplace of Indian theatre, but it has also welcomed and enjoyed experimental theatre. With the same zeal, the city seems to be ready to welcome the debut of yet another Broadway classic. Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) is ready to host CATS by Andrew Lloyd Webber, a multi-award-winning, legendary musical from Broadway and the West End. The prowls in the shadows are taking over The Grand Theatre from June 17 to June 28, 2026.
CATS by Andrew Lloyd Webber
Since its premiere in 1981, London, CATS has captivated the hearts of millions with spectacular staging, soaring melodies, original soundtracks, and theatrical grandeur. Over the course of four decades, the moonlit mystery musical has won 7 Tony Awards, an Olivier, and a Grammy. Moreover, it has given a generation one of its most treasured songs in musical theatre, Memory.
Nevertheless, the play is based on T.S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats. The tale unfolds over an extraordinary night each year when the Jellicle Cats gather for their annual ball. Under the wise eyes of their leader, Old Deuteronomy, one cat is chosen to ascend the Heaviside Layer and be reborn into a new life. Composed by the legendary artist, Andrew Lloyd Webber, the visual language is certainly spectacular. Additionally, John Napier’s set transformation of the stage and Gillian Lynne’s breathtaking choreography, which earned CATS the Olivier Award, is certainly going to be spellbinding. The sweeping orchestration, haze, fog, confetti cannon, and the ambient light work bring the enchanting (and a bit quirky) world vividly to life.
The best part? The show is suitable for all ages. Head to NMACC this June for a limited time only to experience this extraordinary theatrical classic like no other. Book your tickets soon, they are already selling out.
