We promise that it’s not a typo for ‘drive-in cinema’. You really can dive into a pool and sit submerged in water as you watch a movie at this fabulous new Dive-In cinema experience in Mumbai this weekend!
India’s first-ever Dive-in Cinema this weekend in Mumbai
This unique outdoor cinema experience is the brainchild of the Sunset Cinema Club, an immersive cinema experience that curates movie screenings of both cult and commercial movies in off-beat locations like rooftops, microbreweries, beaches and in this case, a swimming pool.
On Saturday, May 17, you drown in emotions as you sink into the pool at the Andheri Hilton during a screening of the 2009 Bollywood romantic comedy Love Aaj Kal.
Surrounded by greenery, the rooftop pool transforms into a breezy oasis. While Deepika Padukone and Saif Ali Khan’s chemistry simmers on screen, you can cool off in the water, sipping on chilled beers or cocktails served at the venue.
Plenty of seating options, BYO swimwear and towels
If you’re worried about getting wrinkly from being in the water, during the 2-hour 9 minutes run time of the film, or simply don’t want to tread water, don’t! Seating options allow you the choice of drifting around the water on a pool float or watching the film sitting on beanbags and chairs by the edge of the pool. So close enough to soak your feet but still firmly on dry ground.
Which is strategic if you feel like breaking into dance mid-movie when songs like Twist or Chor Bazaari light up the screen.
All you need to do to have a splashing good time if you plan to take a dip is bring your own swimming costumes and towels. Snacks and food will be available for purchase during the screening.
What else is showing at the dive-in cinema?
This ongoing new series of dive-in cinemas is making a splash with an eclectic mix of Hindi and English films, primarily romantic comedies. Last week, the inaugural dive-in experience was led with 500 Days of Summer. Bookmark our weekend guide to find out what’s on next week.
INR 600 per person for beanbags with pool access; seating is given on a first-come basis. Book tickets here.
