Weekend late nights mean midnight cravings, and nothing beats a good ol’ fast food escapade. And, Mumbai has no deficit of fast food. Yet, the best part is the plethora of variety available. The world of fast food is a lot bigger than burgers and pizzas, and the city’s scene just grew bigger with the arrival of Berlin’s favourite street eat. Bringing its meat-filled pita sandwich for the first time to India, the UK’s adored Doner Shack has made its way to Bandra.
Doner Shack in Bandra
Operating right at the heart of Fashion Street on Linking Road, Doner Shack is increasingly becoming a favourite pitstop for late-night crowds and post-shopping feeds. The space is simple and brings in a typical fast-food chain vibe with its bold and large red letters that read the name. However, it remains true to its typical German directness, with modern red and white diner-style interiors. After all, the founders of the chain in the UK had a mind illuminating desire to open the first UK store as a token of love for Berlin.
Döner kebab is a rather controversial cold war between Germany and Turkey. While the kebab itself originates in 19th-century Turkey, the sandwich version, as loved by Berliners, began in the 1970s among Turkish immigrants in Berlin. Ever since, it has lured in hungry Berliners and travelled beyond to feed the European nightlife. Thus, remaining true to its origins, Doner Shack dives into the same heavy, fast-casual feast, perfect after a fun-filled weekend night.
Heavy Hitters On The Counter

The menu demands you come hungry. As a Berlin culture, what lures the crowd is its undisputed Lamb Doner Kebab. Spinning on a vertical spit is the spice-rubbed lamb that is thinly sliced and piled into a freshly toasted sesame pita pocket. The pocket barely holds the massive portion of shaved meat and crunchy salad slathered with signature house garlic-laced yoghurt sauce. This is what stands true to its global reputation and a true German take on the traditional Turkish döner kebab.
Beyond the classics, too, Doner Shack doesn’t disappoint with its menu. The chicken-loaded fries are a must for fries flames. Thick and crunchy French fries come buried beneath a heavy layer of shaved chicken, sliced red chilli, fresh spring onions, and a layer of melted cheese. Vegetarians can opt for their crunchy and perfectly fried falafel wraps or crispy paneer wraps. Furthermore, for the classic lovers, baskets of sliders, crispy chicken tenders, and hefty kebab boxes are hard hit
To cut through the intense savoury, add one of the sweet and thick ice cream shakes to the order or the many sundaes (they have a gulab jamun sundae too!) for a perfect end to the meal.
The catch? Doner Shack is open till 3 AM, guaranteeing a freshly prepared European fare beyond our regular orders. Sharp quality, generous quantities, and a wallet-worthy midnight snack are certainly a serious bargain.
