With Big Dawgs playing on a loop, it is about time we find the global sensation Hanumankind hitting the live stage! Sooraj Cherukat alias Hanumankind is arriving with a power-packed concert on the 15th of September at NESCO Center, Mumbai. Announcing the commencement of his tour via an Instagram post, his caption read Bangalore and Mumbai we OTW.
His most recent and well, viral song Big Dawgs garnered a whopping 90 million views on YouTube within a month! The song then quickly positioned itself 9th on the Billboard Hot 100 (currently 29th), surpassing global artists like Kendrick Lamar and Eminem. The Kerela-based sensation accentuates the growing influence of Indian Hip-Hop on a global stage as his song goes viral across all social media channels.
The music video further amassed a fan following of its own. Filmed in the coastal district of Ponnani, Kerala, the video takes place in a maut ka kuan (well of death), where many motorcyclists perform gravity-defying stunts as the rapper performs in the middle of it all. Conveying a marriage between local aesthetics and a Western lyrical style the song speaks volumes about identity and austerity.
Born in Kerela, Sooraj spent the majority of his life shifting through cities like France, Nigeria, Egypt, Dubai, and finally Houston, Texas. After settling back in his home country in 2012, he took up a stable job at Goldman Sachs though his emerging rap career wasn’t left far behind. Now, his music style owing to his several cultural influences, makes a global presence that you can soon witness live on stage.
