Stretching through the Malabar Hill forest, BMC, after four long years of waiting, has unveiled the city’s first-ever elevated nature walkway! This forest on Siri Road, behind Kamala Nehru Park, was previously out of bounds to the public for nearly forty years. However, now, after a careful and sustainable approach adopted by architect Rahul Kadri, the forest has opened its gates once again.
The Nisarga Unnat Marg project takes after Singapore’s Tree Top Walk. Adopting the same as an inspiration, the project approaches nature in a way that centres around environmental conservation. It further balances urban advancement in line with the well-preserved ecosystem. This palpable immersive experience now stands as a testimony to Mumbai’s rich biodiversity, with the walkway offering significant opportunities to acquaint oneself with the surroundings.
More details about the elevated walkway
This 704-meter walkway offers an unparalleled view of the dense forest from an elevated designation. It then goes on to feature a glass-bottom deck and an assigned bird-watching area to witness numerous species in their natural element. The deck further offers a sea viewing deck offering an unobstructed and stunning view of the Arabian Sea. This scenic pathway remains saturated with 100+ species of flora and fauna– from trees like Gulmohar and Jamun to birds like parakeets and bulbuls.
How to book tickets for the Malabar Hill Walkway?
The Malabar Hill Walkway is organised with a pretty stellar system in place- a project control room that oversees the 2.5 acres the walkway stretches across and a well-structured entry system. You can book your tickets online here or scan the barcode at the entry gate. We recommend booking your slots before as only 200 people are allowed on the walkway at once. The entry fee is set at INR 25 for locals and INR 100 for foreigners. The trail remains open daily from 5 am to 9 pm.
