The magic begins at the door latched against a stone wall, and fairy lights intertwine against the looming bougainvillaea vine. It is the Narnia door that takes you inside a cave-like, cosy and warmly lit Italian tavern. At the entrance, a little bench asks you to take a pause, narrating, “If this bench could talk, oh the stories it would tell, of kisses young and old, if you sit, beware the spell“. It stacks a wall of locks, penned with the names of visitors who have immortalised their love and friendships. The restaurant’s legend has it that by penning your names on to the lock with a kiss shared on this bench showers your love life with peace and happiness (or wins you an actual Roman holiday).
The expansive 50-seater establishment, complete with Kota stone flooring and cast iron furniture, complements the antique artefacts and old frames. Designed by Spiro Spero, it fulfils the classy and rustic charm, far removed from the neon bustle of the city.
Mediterranean taste match
Amidst the clinking glasses, the menu opens up a tapestry of Italian and fusion delights. Start with a palate-pleasing burrata salad, where the burst of refreshing cheese is a healthy indulgence, perfect for that “girl dinner”. Moving on, a plate of saucy chicken wings and a handmade artisanal crunch of pepperoni pizza never goes out of style. Moreover, the menu is extremely vegetarian-friendly. The generously creamed tortellini gives off the aroma of freshly squeezed lemon zest. Though you shouldn’t miss out on the crispy broccoli tacos. Make sure to save room for the finale – the desserts. Whether you choose the rich and creamy Nutella cheesecake or go for the decadent chocolate terrine, you’re sure to be delighted.
