Mumbai’s dining scene has never been about playing safe. This is where flavours collide, cuisines blur, and experimentation is part of everyday appetite. This January, this spirit is treated to an izakaya takeover of the city’s dining. While traditional Japanese izakayas thrive on sophistication, Bangkok does things a bit differently. Bangkok-style izakayas aren’t built for quiet dinners; they are messy in the best way possible, with bold drinks, shared plates, and loud rooms. Here, food arrives fast, and mood never drops. And that is exactly what you can expect as Fatboy Izakaya Bangkok takes over Torii Mumbai‘s kitchen and bar. For two exclusive nights, the city’s contemporary Asian dining destination invites a cross-cultural collision, bringing banging flavours from Bangkok’s cult favourite to Mumbai.
Fatboy Izakaya Bangkok Takes Over Torii Mumbai
On January 29 & January 31, Torii’s kitchen and bar is all set to let loose with Fatboy Izakaya Bangkok’s takeover. Staying true to its identity, the shared experience is all about exploring flamboyantly bold and new flavours. Flying in especially for the collaboration is Chef Andrew Martin, the culinary ace behind Fatboy Izakaya Bangkok. His dishes don’t come with an intent to impress quietly; they demand attention, with bold seasonings, high-heat cooking and plates to be shared and reordered.

Don’t expect a slow tasting menu. It’s about momentum. The menu highlights Japanese bar classics with Torii’s contemporary twist. Expect the juiciness of grilled chicken marinated with yuzu, served with ume and chicken fried rice. The sweetness of soft-shell crab rolled into a BKK spider roll, and the classic fish and chips in kaarage style. Additionally, the menu doesn’t discriminate against vegetarians with mouthfuls of Portobello Japanese-style sando, Ramen Cacio e Pepe, and so much more.

Nevertheless, the true star of an izakaya is the bar.
Partnering with Fatboy’s head bartenders, Stefan Usaphrom and Joe Thamrongrit, Torii’s bar team has crafted six signature cocktails. The star of the evening is the Sumo Sour, a whiskey-based cocktail with the sourness of yuzu, tartness of salted plum and katsuobushi, finished with a touch of wasabi heat. If Sumo Sour is the king, then the Hot Mess is its queen, an exciting combination of tequila, mezcal, and sweet mango with a kick of Thai chamoy. Adding to the quirky list of cocktails is PB&J Negroni and Umeshu Spritz that complement its loud food.
But this barely captures what you are in for. This is a takeover designed to be experienced rather than explained, where Fatboy’s expressive style meets Torii’s refined identity.
